The very heart of any lawnmower is the blade and Ibea's design engineers have developed a special winged blade that optimises performance in both
"cut and collect" and "mulching" modes. For the operator this means that at every cut it is a simple quick decision whether to 'mulch' or 'collect' dependant on prevailing conditions.

The traditional way to maintain lawns is now made even more efficient with the combination of new blade, deck and collecting bag. Grass clippings are conveyed in an air vortex via the huge discharge tunnel into an easy to empty collecting bag. The smooth, deep deck design gives a consistent, even flow of grass that optimises collection even in wet heavy conditions.

The environmentally friendly future of lawn mowing. Mulching instead of collecting saves energy and can reduce mowing time by up to 40%. It also eases pressure on landfill sites, as there are no clippings to dispose of.

The key to a great mulching mower is the combination of blade and shape of the deck. Ibea's rounded, dome shaped, deck circulates grass clippings whilst being repeatedly cut by the mower blade. Studies have demonstrated that a single blade of grass can re-circulate up to ten times within the deck before falling back onto the grass. During this time the grass clippings are being cut and re-cut repeatedly.

Advantages of mulching go far beyond faster, easier cutting. The tiny fragments of grass left behind on the lawn are made up of 90% water and the balance contains nutrient rich organic material that can be returned to the soil. This rich organic matter includes Nitrogen, Phosphorous and Potassium and in smaller quantities Iron, Calcium and Magnesium - all essential elements in healthy plant growth.

Scientific studies have frequently proved that mulching does not produce thatch. Thatch is a natural phenomenon caused by
horizontal growth of tissues rich in cellulose such as roots and rhizomes.
Eliminating thatch assists healthy grass growth but mulching does not create it.

Converting from "Cut and Collect" to "Mulch" mode is quick and easy. Simply insert the special mulch adapter into the grass discharge tunnel. The aerodynamically shaped adapter blocks the discharge tunnel and maintains a smooth flow of air within the cutting deck.

"TT" - letters synonymous with the famous annual Isle of Man motorcycle festival. They also stand for "Twist Traction®" the revolutionary new drive system from Ibea that has evolved from the world of motorcycling. Operation of the new system is based on a similar intuitive movement of the wrist.

As with motorcycles a throttle is used to increase and decrease forward speed. Speed variation of between 0 and 5 kph is available with a simple wrist movement. Releasing the throttle immediately disengages the drive.

When traction is disengaged a special device within the gearbox neutralises drive allowing the lawnmower to be manoeuvred backwards or forwards with no friction drag from the gearbox. Another Ibea exclusive.

Models not fitted with the "TT" system still enjoy the same innovative drive system. Even without the throttle it is still possible to slow down the mower by "feathering" the traction lever thus enabling the operator to manoeuvre easily in difficult areas. Smooth, jerk free starting every time.

IBEA's new range of 48cm (19") and 53cm (21") rear roller rotary lawnmowers set new standards of mowing for the discerning gardener. A marriage of Italian design flair and engineering excellence has produced a range of modern lawnmowers packed with features designed to simplify lawn care and produce that traditional British striped effect.

Large capacity easy-on, easy-off grass bag.

Large diameter split steel roller with differential allows easy manoeuvrability. Heavy duty steel drive gears to rear roller. High quality 5hp or 6hp Briggs and Stratton engines. Special blade "mulches" clippings before collection allowing extra volume and less frequent emptying of the grass bag. Electric start option on 48cm (19") model.

Ibea's new 550 series mowers can also be supplied with an innovative starting system that automatically starts the engine by simply engaging the OPC lever! No batteries or electrical circuits, just a mechanical spring device that re-charges itself, using the inertia produced by the blade stopping when the OPC lever is released. Briggs and Stratton guarantee the heavy-duty spring mechanism for 5 years of consumer use.

A removable safety key prevents accidental starting during storage or transport whilst a locking bar eliminates inadvertent engagement of the OPC lever.

The control system is an integral part of the machine designed to be part of the mower and not an after-thought.

The benefits of the device are twofold: firstly there is no need to stop the engine when emptying the grass bag and secondly the mowers traction system can be used to safely move the mower from one area to another without the blade rotating.

Optimum cutting height selection could not be easier. The simple to operate, deck-mounted handle allows selection from a range of up to 10 different cutting heights. The push button operation is made easier by a counter-balance spring that compensates for the weight of the mower.
If the grass is very long and mulching is the option required we recommend that no more than one third of the grass leaf is cut at any one time. For healthy grass growth it is beneficial to reduce height gradually using several cuts over a period of time.

Maintaining great mulching performance requires a clean deck.
The new Ibea mowers are self-cleaning, after mowing connect a garden hose to the port at the rear of the engine, turn on the water, start the engine and the mower cleans itself.

Extra large wheels (200mm front and 230mm diameter rear) give greater stability and exceptional smoothness over any terrain. Larger wheels also mean less grass compaction.

Controls are compact and user friendly. The system two (OPC) lever comes easily to hand and is comfortable to use. Handlebars adjust to suit any user and can be folded for storage and transport.
A large capacity grass bag reduces bag emptying and, as the blade always performs a certain mulch function even when collecting, the clippings are smaller and allow the bag to fill more densely.

The large opening on the bag facilitates easy emptying and connecting it to the mower is a simple one step operation.

Even when the grass bag is full of wet, heavy grass the mower remains balanced due to the extra long wheelbase.
